March German Gewurtztraminer. 2017 Limited Release Limited Supply Wine.

A French white wine with a German name that no one can pronounce—meet Gewürztraminer.

The name is a combination of the german word “gewürz” meaning spicy, and “Traminer” the name of its ancient father vine that grew in Europe between 1000AD and the 16th century.

When Gewurtztraminer comes from France, it is often dismissed as a flamboyant, sweet wine dripping with lychee and roses. But across the Rhine River in Germany, a dry Gewürztraminer is being made that is a complete departure from these perfumed sugar-                               bombs.

Only about 10 square kilometres of the variety is planted in Germany, where it is made into a refined, dry style that highlights the delicious flavours while maintaining a pleasantly fresh finish.

Gewürztraminer is classically paired with spicy asian dishes, like curries, but is a lovely white wine to enjoy all year round by the glass!
